Exploring the Sensual & Imaginal Body with Performance as Deep Personal & Community Metaphor

For this MASTER CLASS: Maureen emphasizes principles & practices from the Kazuo Ohno Dance Studio, including lessons from both Kazuo & Yoshito Ohno. She is honored to be passing on this lineage & integrating these profound teachings with her own inquiries based in bio-mimicry, sensation, imagination & sacred life arts.

Participants will have opportunity to experience the body as universal material & metaphor, discover personal mytho-poetry for movement in relationship with space, body & others. Each dancer will leave with a “tool kit” of intermodal art practices (movement, voice, drawing, writing) and an exemplary personal repertoire mined from his/her own body & soul that can be developed into performance material if desired. This class is a launching pad wherein Maureen will coach participants in defining & embodying their hearts desires & soul callings into meaningful day to day actions.

  1. How did this go? I’d be interested in hearing about it 🙂

    • Very well, thanks for your interest & inquiry Neko…The weather was gorgeous fresh spring sunshine & full moon time! I saw the new Oakland Bay Bridge LED artwork from a ferry. I learned two new snake dance/yoga forms from two beautiful goddesses. I was so graciously hosted by new friends and able to attend the inspiring bi-annual conference of the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association. I made the premiere performance of “Snake Patrick’s Night Oracle” with Butoh master Hiroko Tamano; Christa Ray with Shamanic Voice and Deborah Koff-Chapin Touch Drawing. It was an honor to be welcomed by BareBones Butoh’s Bob Webb at Studio 210 in the Mission. We had a very fine audience for that one as well as the next one hosted by Margit Galanter in Oakland. Then there was also a great turnout for the workshop I led about Kazuo & Yoshito Ohno’s butoh lineage thanks to the producing support of the wonderful Shoshona Green! On top of all that, Antero & Sylvi Alli treated me to their favoroite lovely Indian buffet lunch! Yummy all around I would say. 🙂
